Statement of Accessibility

The Township of St. Joseph is committed to building an inclusive community and providing an accessible environment in which all individuals have access to The Township’s services and programs in a way that respects the dignity and independence of all people.

The Township of St. Joseph supports the goals of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and will strive to ensure that its policies, practices and procedures are consistent with the following core principles as outlined in the AODA.

Dignity – Policies, procedures and practices that respect the dignity of a person with a disability. That a person with a disability is treated valued and is as deserving of effective and full service as any other customer. If barriers to accessibility are unattainable, The Township of St. Joseph will consider what else can be done to provide services to people with disabilities.

Independence – The freedom to make your own choice and do things your own way. A person with a disability should not be denied an opportunity to participate in a program or service and will be respected for making their own choice to do it their own way.

Integration – Services that allow people with disabilities to fully benefit from the same services, in the same place and in a similar fashion as other customers. This may require alternative formats and flexible approaches. It means inclusiveness and full participation. This is a fundamental human right.

Equal Opportunity – Service is provided to persons with disabilities in a way that will provide them with the same opportunities, options, benefits and results as others. A person with a disability should not have to make greater effort to access or obtain a service or program.

The Township of St. Joseph will continue to prevent barriers by designing inclusively and supporting positive attitudes among its entire staff. The Township of St. Joseph is dedicated to working towards this goal and is committed to meeting the requirements of existing legislation and becoming a barrier free Township.
