These positions are full time (35hrs/week) and training will be provided.

Marina Attendant - Tasks and Responsibilities

The Marina Attendants are Ambassadors to the Island community.  Assistants working at the marina welcome visitors to St. Joseph Island by boat or by car, providing local information about community events, sites of interest, historically significant sites, places to stay, eat, see and things to do. 

The Marina Attendants are responsible to ensure the safe and clean operation of the Richards Landing Municipal Marina in accordance with municipal objectives and policies relating to customer service, tourism attraction and the environment; and Provincial and Federal regulations regarding fuel operations and licensing, and Great Lakes Protection measures.  Assistants provide excellent customer service to boaters and marina patrons by assisting with dockage and boat launch and landings, cash management, cleaning and maintaining equipment and the grounds, and participating in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility from spring to fall.

Marina Attendants are also responsible to make daily checks on sites of interest in and around Richards Landing, ensuring that public facilities are open, clean, well stocked, and report any deficiencies or vandalism which may have occurred overnight to any structure. 

Marina Assistants also play an important role in keeping the downtown area clean, litter free, and maintained for the busy tourist season by grass cutting, painting decking and decorative structures, planting and maintaining flower beds and gardens, emptying garbage containers, repairing signage and painting weather worn structures.  The Marina Attendants are responsible to ensure safe, clean public access to downtown Richards Landing, ensuring barrier free access to all public spaces for seniors and those with accessibility needs.  They support community events by installing event tents, vendor booths, banners, market tables and ensuring the Marina facility is clean, barrier free and welcoming.

This position includes weekday, weekend and early evening hours.

Public Works/Environmental Services Labourer Tasks and Responsibilities

The Works/Environmental Services Assistant plays a dual role:  as Works Assistant, the Assistant will work with and assist the public works department in construction and maintenance projects on roads, bridges, municipal facilities and for recreational and community events; and as Environmental Services Assistant, the Assistant plays a key role in waste management and recycling by ensuring that the landfill site operations meet the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. 

They will assist with the safe operation of the landfill site, the recycling depot and the Share Shed, keeping the site clean, ensuring that all waste entering the site is disposed of in the proper location and manner, educating and advising site users of acceptable materials, what is not acceptable, and alternate locations for depositing materials such as hazardous waste that cannot be accepted.  The Assistant will also approach people as they enter the site to ensure they are entitled to utilize the site.

The Assistant will be required to liaise with members of the public as they enter the site, and provide advice, direction and recommendations on how, where and what to dispose of. 

The Assistant will learn the importance of record keeping in accordance with Ministry guidelines.  A daily record must be kept of all vehicles entering the site, what they are bringing, what is being dumped or recycled, and advice provided on good environmental and recycling practices. 

In the Works Department, the Assistant will assist the Roads Crew with flagging operations, small construction and maintenance projects, small equipment operation and maintenance, painting, cleaning, grass cutting and facility cleaning and maintenance.  

This position is Monday – Friday, daytime hours. Occasional Special event coverage my include weekend hours.

Parks and Recreation Labourer Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Parks and Recreation Assistant takes a proactive approach to ensure that public spaces are clean, safe, and environmentally sound by employing diligent risk management practices and following health and safety guidelines.  The Assistant works independently and is self directed.  They ensure that Township facilities and open spaces are barrier free and welcoming to all residents, including youth, seniors, persons with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada. 

Responsible to maintain baseball and soccer fields for youth recreation programs, cut grass and weeds in public spaces to reduce hazards, collect litter and ensure all areas are free of barriers and hazards, perform small construction and maintenance projects.  The Assistant will install soccer pitches, secure bases on ball diamonds, and conduct playground inspections.   Risk management and public safety are key. 

This position maintains the downtown area for the busy tourist season by maintaining public spaces, planting and maintaining flower beds and gardens, emptying garbage containers, repairing signage and painting weather worn structures. 

Supports community events by installing event tents, vendor booths, banners, and ensuring the space is clean, barrier free and welcoming.
