Job Description:

The Township of St. Joseph is located approximately 40 km east of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on Highway 17 East. It occupies the northern portion of St. Joseph Island and is home to over 1,200 year-round residents with a large seasonal population. The Township is currently seeking a Superintendent of Works to replace the retiring incumbent.

The Superintendent of Works will be a key team player responsible for the management of all activities related to the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, public works, parks, recreational facilities, and the municipal landfill.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills; strong project management ability; be able to communicate effectively with staff and the public; demonstrate proven supervisory capabilities and experience; develop and implement yearly budgets and work plans; have excellent budgeting and reporting skills; be self-directed, exhibit initiative and demonstrate attention to detail.  Compliance with current legislation, regulations, programs and policies is mandatory, as is your working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act. MOE Water/Wastewater Certification1 would be an asset.

Qualifications include a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a senior public works or related supervisory position; post-secondary education in a related field; proficiency in the use of computers and the MS office environment.  Candidates must hold a current AZ license. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
