Township COVID Updates: Updated April 12, 2021

TOWNSHIP OF ST JOSEPH MUNICIPAL NOTICES and UPDATES 

The municipal office is now CLOSED to the general public during the STAY AT HOME ORDER. We are still working and able to serve you by phone or email. We are still taking calls, answering voicemails and emails and processing payments. 

Please use the drop box at 1669 Arthur for documents such as fire and building permits, and Tax or Utility Cheque payments. Please ensure you have noted your Roll # or Account #. Online payments can be set up by making the Township a Payee through your telephone or online banking. Payments for other items such as Building Permits and Dog tags can be made by e-transfer to payments@stjosephtownship.com  Reach out to us with any questions or concerns and we will do our best to help. 

COVID 19 Vaccination Clinics at the Richards Landing Legion

UPDATED VACCINATION INFORMATION: April 12, 2021
Algoma Public Health will now be booking appointments at the Richards Landing Legion and Thessalon Arena. This is a phone booking system only, no online bookings.  The next clinic in Richards Landing will be April 29th, and clinics are expected to continue every two weeks in Richards Landing.

Booking Phone Lines for these next clinics will be open:

  • Thursday April 15th,
  • Friday April 16th
  • Monday Apr 19th and
  • Tuesday April 20th

Phone line hours: 9am to 4pm only

Algoma Public Health will be booking those who are 65+ for these clinics as well as all of the other priority groups currently eligible in Algoma. Algoma has not yet officially started booking those eligible in phase two, although many areas of the province have. Those who left their name and number with the Township must now book directly at the number above. They will not be calling from our list.

Do I have to get the COVID-19 vaccine?: Whether or not you receive the COVID-19 immunization vaccine will be your choice.  You can find information about COVID-19 vaccine safety at covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccine-safety or by calling Algoma Public Health at 705-759-5404.

 Where can I get vaccinated?: There will be vaccination clinics in Thessalon, St. Joseph Island and Sault Ste. Marie.  The vaccination clinic at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374 in Richards Landing on St. Joseph Island will be the closest site for residents of the following townships:

St. Joseph Township                                             Village of Hilton Beach

Hilton Township                                                    Jocelyn Township

Johnson Township                                                Tarbutt Township

Penalties and Interest on Property Tax and Utility Bills

 

 If you have experienced financial hardship directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can apply for an additional 3 month waiver of penalties and interest by filling out the COVID Relief Application Form that can be downloaded from the COVID page on our website.  Contact the office at 705-246-2625 or email treasurer@stjosephtownship.com  if you have any questions. 

 

Landfill Update

 

The Landfill is OPEN at this time. Hours are Wednesday 2pm-8pm, Saturday 8am -2pm and Sunday 2pm – 8pm. The Share Shed is closed until further notice.

 

Residents ensure they have a Landfill sticker on their vehicle and make an extra effort to separate materials and be careful to dispose of these materials in the proper location at the Landfill site. 

 

Attendants will be at the site to inspect loads and help direct you.  We ask that you cooperate and allow them to do their job while respecting physical distancing. 

 

Please remember to follow physical distancing guidelines by staying at least 2 metres from others and do not linger at the site. Tipping Vouchers may be purchased at the Office, Fannie’s on the Go, or at Kentvale Home Hardware. Contact deputyct@stjosephtownship.com if you require a landfill use sticker.

Completed forms and drawings can be dropped off at 1669 Arthur Street, Richards Landing, in the mail drop box, or mailed to The Township of St. Joseph,  P.O. Box 187, Richards Landing, ON, P0R 1J0, or emailed to deputyct@stjosephtownship.com for the CBO to review and approve.  Enquiries about applications can be directed to the Clerk Administrator, Amanda Richardson, at clerkadmin@stjosephtownship.com or by calling the Chief Building Official at 705-941-8107.

 

Fire Permits

You must have a current Fire Permit in order to burn from April 1 – Oct 31.

Please download your permit here to fill out, sign and return. Once your permit has been processed it will be assigned a permit number and signed by staff. It is not considered valid until assigned a number and signed by township staff. You may have it emailed to you, or mailed. Please email filled out forms to apply@stjosephtownship.com. Keep in mind, you will need to attach your proof of vaccination/spay/neuter and payment when you submit by email (click the submit by email button on the form). Payment can be made by e-transfer to payments@stjosephtownship.com  and we will then mail the tag. 

Alternatively you may fill out by hand and submit a copy of your proof of vaccination/spay/neuter and payment to the mail slot at 1669 Arthur Street. We will mail your tag.
